What "website with hosting" actually means at Mentes

Most agencies hand you a site and walk away. Here's how Mentes bundles web design with hosting, assisted edits, and real performance monitoring into one monthly relationship.

What "website with hosting" actually means at Mentes (and why it changes the math)

Most studios build you a website. Then they hand you a ZIP file, wish you luck, and move on to the next client. What happens next — keeping it live, keeping it fast, making changes without breaking anything — becomes your problem.

That's the model almost every agency runs. And it creates a gap that small businesses quietly absorb for years: a beautiful site that slowly drifts, slows down, and gets harder to update with every passing month.

At Mentes, we offer web design with hosting as a single, ongoing relationship. One fee to build. One monthly fee to keep everything sharp. Here's what that actually means.

The bundle: what you get and what it costs

Our offer has two parts.

The design fee is a one-time engagement. It covers the full build — strategy, concept, copy direction, design, and code. No templates. No drag-and-drop shortcuts. The site is built from first principles, specific to your brand, and we don't ship anything we wouldn't put on our own portfolio. Pricing for the design phase starts around $3,500 for a focused brand site and scales with scope. You can see what a project typically includes on our services page.

The hosting plan is a flat monthly fee — starting at $150/mo — and it's where the real value compounds. Here's what it includes:

  • Managed hosting. Your site lives on infrastructure we control and monitor. Uptime tracking, SSL renewals, security patches — handled without you asking.
  • Performance regression guards. If a deployment or content change causes a meaningful slowdown, we catch it before your visitors do.
  • Assisted edits via your dashboard. You get access to a private admin dashboard. Need to update a team member, swap a photo, adjust pricing copy? You submit the edit; it gets drafted and applied — without you touching code, without filing a support ticket into a void.
  • Monthly health reports. Core Web Vitals, load times, crawl health. One email, plain English, once a month.

No retainer negotiation. No "we'll scope that and get back to you." The maintenance relationship is already priced in.

How this compares to the typical agency model

The standard agency arrangement looks cheaper until you do the math over 24 months.

A mid-range agency charges $8,000–$15,000 to build a custom site. Fair enough — good work costs money. But then you're on your own. The hosting is yours to figure out. Changes go through a retainer — usually $200–$500/mo if you want a dedicated point of contact, or an hourly rate that adds up fast every time you need a new landing page or a copy tweak.

Over two years, that often looks like:

  • $10,000 design fee
  • $300/mo × 24 months for a light retainer = $7,200
  • Total: $17,200

With Mentes, the same window looks like:

  • $3,500–$5,500 design fee
  • $150/mo × 24 months hosting = $3,600
  • Total: $7,100–$9,100

And critically — with the typical agency model, you're filing change requests into a retainer that renews whether or not you use it. With Mentes, assisted edits are baked into the hosting fee. The dashboard is there when you need it.

This isn't a knock on agencies that charge more for builds. Some of them are worth every dollar. But for Florida small businesses — the boutique hotel in Winter Park, the law firm in Brickell, the service brand coming out of Mills 50 — a $10,000 build plus an open-ended retainer is a real barrier. The Mentes model is designed around that reality.

How this compares to Wix and Squarespace

Wix Premium runs $17–$36/mo depending on the plan. Squarespace is similar. At first glance, that looks like the obvious winner on price.

But here's what that buys you: a template. One that thousands of other businesses already use. Constraint-based design tools that make your brand look like everyone else on the same plan tier. And when you outgrow the platform — when you need a booking flow that isn't in their app store, or a layout the builder doesn't support, or a site that actually loads fast — you start over.

There's also the question of ownership. A Wix site doesn't belong to you in any meaningful sense. The design, the structure, the underlying code — it all lives inside their platform. If Wix raises prices, changes the product, or discontinues a feature, your options are limited.

With a Mentes site, you own the design. The hosting is managed by us, but the work is yours. If you ever wanted to move on — host it yourself, hand it to an in-house developer — you have a real codebase to hand over. That's a different kind of asset.

We've written more about the true cost comparison between templates and custom sites in this breakdown on the blog. The short version: Wix is the right call for a business that doesn't care how its site compares to competitors. For the rest, the math shifts fast.

Why the dashboard changes the relationship

The admin dashboard is worth dwelling on, because it's the thing that makes the hosting fee feel different from a traditional retainer.

Most retainers are reactive. You notice something wrong — a broken form, outdated pricing, a team page that still shows someone who left a year ago — and you email an agency and wait. Sometimes days. Sometimes weeks, depending on how busy they are.

The Mentes dashboard flips that. You submit what you need changed; it gets drafted using your site's existing copy style and applied quickly. No scope discussions. No hourly billing. The edit either falls inside normal maintenance (most do) or it's a new feature (and we'll tell you that clearly, upfront, before doing anything).

The result is a site that stays current. That sounds obvious, but an outdated site is one of the most common slow leaks in a small business's brand. Visitors notice when your testimonials are two years old. Google notices when pages go stale. The dashboard removes the friction that usually lets that happen.

Why our clients don't leave us

We're not going to bury the honest part.

The Mentes hosting plan creates continuity by design. Once your site is running well, monitored, and connected to an edit workflow you actually use — switching to a different model has real friction. Not because we make it hard to leave, but because the alternative requires you to rebuild the relationship from scratch with someone new.

That's the same reason good accountants, good lawyers, and good architects retain clients: they become part of how the business runs. We want to be in that category for our clients' digital presence.

The clients who stay with us — and most of them do — stay because the site keeps performing. Because changes happen without drama. Because when something in the hosting environment shifts, we've already dealt with it before they noticed.

That's the offer. Design that's worth owning, hosting that keeps it sharp, and a dashboard that keeps it current. One relationship instead of three vendors.
